Keys for Spiritual Living
Updated: Apr 21, 2024
Some nuggets from Romans 12v9-21 for living the way God wants us to live. Not always easy but it is attainable through the power of the Holy Spirit within us.
We need to remind ourselves that God sets a higher standard of behaviour for us as His children. We need to be as He is in the world. Honestly have a look at this list, you may need to do some soul searching and heart cleansing. Bring it before the Lord, He is faithful to forgive, to guide us and lead us into all truth. His discipline is for training us, it is never punishment, it is guidance. We just need to be humble and open to admit and confess when we have been wrong.
Love without hypocrisy. God knows our hearts and He will judge us accordingly. We cannot lie to Him only to ourselves.
Abhor what is evil. We cannot agree with evil or partner with what the world is presenting to us. We need to hate what God hates.
Cling to what is good.
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Kindness, care and respect costs nothing.
Not lagging in diligence. Always be ready to do what needs to be done.
Be fervent (displaying passionate intensity) in spirit, serving the Lord. He must be our passion above anything else in this world.
Rejoice in hope. In Him there is always hope. If we can see something, there is no need to hope for it. So in the waiting for what we are hoping for, keep rejoicing.
Be patient in tribulations. We will have trials in this world, but we can overcome through Him.
Continue steadfastly in prayer. Do not cease from praying. You never know what God wants to do through your prayers for others and through your constant trust in Him.
Distributing to the needs of the saints. Take care of those that you can within the means you have.
Be hospitable. Be someone that makes others always feel welcome.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. When people come against you, forgive them, bless them and release them. You set yourself free in this manner.
Rejoice with those who rejoice.
Weep with those who weep.
Be of the same mind toward one another.
Do not set your mind on high things (think that you are better than others), but associate with the humble. God is the one who will exalt us in due time.
Do not be wise in your own opinion. Consider you may not always be right or that your opinions are at times not based on fact. Be open to learn and don’t be rigid in your thinking.
Repay no one evil for evil.
Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. Be an example to others.
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, be at peace with all. This is a tough one but as you see, it depends on you. How you will respond to others. In the end our peace is from God alone.
Do not avenge yourselves, allow the Lord to defend you, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Your enemies can turn into your friends. You never know what someone else is facing that causes them to respond in a certain way. Be the one that responds differently.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Good will always triumph over evil. Even if it may take a while to see that happen, trust in God’s design. He overcame evil for us so we can be like Him in this world, triumphing over evil.
Bless you all this day in the might name of Yeshua!
